What is the Alexander Technique?
The key concept behind the Alexander Technique (A.T.) is that many of the issues people face —particularly those related to pain and tension—are due to ingrained habits of poor posture and inefficient movement patterns. These unconscious habits can lead to debilitating musculoskeletal problems, especially over time. The A.T. seeks to restore the way people move, sit, stand, bend etc so they can actively alleviate and ultimately prevent pain before it becomes severe. By teaching people to consciously reduce muscle tension through improved alignment whilst moving, strain on the spine and surrounding muscles is greatly reduced. This approach offers long-term benefits without the risks associated with invasive medical procedures or long-term use of pain medication
Don’t Take Pills – Learn Skills!
Rather than a passive treatment, the Alexander Technique is an educational process that teaches you skills for applying in everyday activities. You actively learn to align and move in ways that support natural body mechanics, thus empowering you to make sustainable changes on your own.
Pain is Information Not Inevitable!
The A.T. addresses the root of chronic tension and poor movement habits. Unlike other bodywork practices that focus solely on physical adjustments, the Alexander Technique emphasizes conscious awareness, helping you identify and change unconscious habits that can contribute to keeping you in chronic pain cycles. The Technique doesn’t isolate or work on specific areas of the body; instead, it integrates the whole body and mind in movement, ensuring that posture and alignment are maintained effortlessly across all activities—from sitting and standing to sports and performance.
